Constantly on the hunt and suffering from hallucinations that drive his violent nature, an unnamed man is capturing women and savagely beating them to death. Meanwhile, a woman is luring men into a violent end, by way of her knife. Driven by the same force to make the opposite sex suffer, the killers’ fates intertwine. The two must face off in a battle to the death, in which they are forced to reveal the horrible truth behind their addiction to murder.
“Brutal” takes an interesting approach to its visuals, drawing heavy influence from Western “Grindhouse” films, using a filter to make the footage appear grainy, damaged, and with light and color fluctuations. Unfortunately, the visual styling ends up feeling misguided, as other than applying the filter it does not imitate any other aspects of the “Grindhouse” genre. Despite trying to dirty up the film, it is apparent it was shot on digital. The cinematography is also a step above most “Grindhouse” productions, with Takashi Hirose proving he has talent behind the camera. Exterior shots to those taking place in small spaces are all competently framed, lit, and transition well. The decision to add an effect on top of the work hurts the film’s imagery and even gives a sense of desperation to try to capture a certain type of nostalgia with the audience, instead of relying on its own strengths. It is unfortunate when one creative choice can hurt a production so much.
The story of “Brutal” is simple but effective, it does attempt some sort of social commentary about the violent nature of men and women, but it does not offer enough depth into the subject to justify the amount of violence on display. The film does end on a strong note with an interesting twist, with a reveal that is bound to gross some out, while giving others a chuckle. In spite of its simple nature, those who enjoy films that make them somewhat uncomfortable and enjoy the challenge of getting through some ultra-violence, “Brutal” poses a fun and entertaining challenge in that regard.

前面又吓人又墨迹，都看困了、好在后面进展迅速，结尾处理的前后呼应、故事的不错，就是男主这张脸总让我感觉是在澳洲驰骋的牛仔，下一秒就要骑马了
我觉得还不错诶，虽然故事略显老套，但是很完整。前面是拖沓了一点，后半段引人入胜，大魔王和cooper的对手戏相当精彩。
三星半，结局太惨了，别人怎么说都不听。非要沦落至此，这是人性使然吗？
3.5。toro對嘉年華內志怪美學的狂熱明顯壓過了他對黑色電影的迷影情節，這也導致影片在主角走出嘉年華後立刻變得冗長無聊。
Del Toro réunit tous les éléments indispensables pour rendre hommage au film noir, de la noirceur de l’intrigue à l’éclairage culte en passant par la «femme fatale»,dans 1 décor baroque amplement reconstruit des 40s. Avec le rise and fall de son anti-héros arriviste, le récit prend 1 forme circulaire dans 1 perspective assez prédictive à l’avance, ce qui réduit largement son aspect « suspens». Nightmare Alley reste un film noir esthétiquement abouti et divertissant aux traits freaks/monstrueux, thème de prédilection de son réalisateur.
大魔王演精明女就像汤姆汉克斯一样已经没有波澜了……
三星多一点吧，还是可以看的，毕竟大魔王一出场，再美的小花也立刻被秒杀了。那样的厚唇冷脸，谁不想去亲吻一下？而这永远是一个聪明人的天下。
没看过原版，但Cooper和大魔王对手戏有点东西，所以后半段i住。前半段马戏团的剧情太长了，废戏挺多，删个半小时就好了
挺喜欢马戏团的部分，有一种绵密的质感。两年后就变成狗血地摊文学了（精神分析？不过是“角色背景”这种最廉价的东西罢了)！不过还是很喜欢一些声音设计，比如手表的嘀嗒声，玻璃杯的嗡嗡作响等等。
故事很好，可惜表演有点中庸和一般，平铺直叙吧，凯特仍然是抢风头的那一个。
陀螺的镜头和调色太好看了，但片长真的太长了，而内核故事又太简单了。前半冗长而无聊，后半段华丽却空洞。 兔的角色实在没什么空间。魔王这部的演技也只能算庸常。至于库珀算得上“玉面”但既没有性张力也没有邪恶感。前半段太风情画了，交代也极为絮叨。后半段以为要蓄势待发的搞事情，但故事太小了，而且完全没有高潮点。唯一的高光可能就是在结尾处库珀自愿掉进早年“怪人”的套路里一样，可惜这个包袱在前段逃上运鸡火车就能猜到。
昨晚，不知多少人和我一样，被「国师」张艺谋「知微见著、去繁化简」的「中国古典」美学和浪漫震撼与感动到。虽与东方传统文化大相径庭，但喜欢钻研「黑科技」的观众也不妨看看西方《梦魇巷》里的「精神现象」学。显然，这是一个吸引「眼球」和争夺「注意力」的时代，导演的工作就是吸引并操纵观众。对于「江湖骗子」来说，导演仅是一个饭碗。然而，男主却是一个有「弑父」意识和包袱，且有「恋母」诉求和冲动的「时空」旅行者。他一面「挣钱」糊口，一面《偷吻》学艺——他的「艺术」启蒙导师是他的母亲，而他的「越界」对象亦是扮演《心灵猎人》角色的「通灵知心」师母。在托罗这部试图运用「基督」文明详解「水火既济」卦相，被「空心病」患者低估的寓言作品里，他的理想观众显然不是那些寻求感官刺激，容易被「江湖杂耍」牵着眼和脑子走的访客。待续
对不起，欧洲人对公平的追求超越了对效率的渴望。也有可能我被美式管理术PUA了。
马戏团背景还是黑白粗砺的影像更有时代的味道。
置景看上去真有钱啊，女演员们都还可以，单Cooper不太行。陀螺确实有为怀旧而怀旧的嫌疑，还是搞点原创剧本吧。
2.5/5 比较喜欢前半Carnival的部分 虽然拖拉了 但至少发挥了陀螺的风格 后半部分叙事乏味 演员之间又毫无火花😪
快进看完的。男主一开始就有原罪啊，活活冻死了自己的父亲，然后放火烧了房子。请问动机是什么？就是为了说明这个男子天生是坏蛋吗？但他在马戏团的表现有好像温文尔雅，不像是个能杀父亲的人啊！！！还谈了一段浪漫的恋爱。然后画风突转，马上变坏了。原来重头戏在后面。但前面已经放了一个小时了！！铺垫太长！后面事情败露后，女律师栽赃的戏份，太过于明显了。那样直接在办公室暴露自己，只怕是会死得更快！男子前面聪明的不行，后面居然如此糊涂。。
Not my cup of tea....
终究是变成了怪人。
