The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 与加兰的前作手法类似，靠大量镜头运动和紧张的配乐营造惊悚诡异的气氛，《男人》相对弱化了其前作的科幻元素，反倒更突岀心理惊悚，美丽的乡村风景，开阔的空间反倒更放大了这种诡异感，而遇到的千人一面的男性其实是不同层面的恐惧外化，套娃生殖的部分确实是很刷新观感，但是这种设计还是感觉不如他之前作品里面科幻概念铺设的完整，还是更喜欢《湮灭》这种气质的作品。（7.5/10）

网飞是把大数据电影玩明白了，当红顶流2男+1女，坠机追车街头枪战，打情骂俏走马观花都给你来一遍，剧本有就行，类型片元素给够，危机感这种东西比桃总的ass存在感还要低。续集也确定了，观众和片方也在某种程度上达成高度默契，一边骂着俗套一边续订，被大数据吃的死死的
加害者从一开始就全然隐身，他仿佛不存在。先是以受害者的姿态附身，血色的残破躯干，亘古的阴魂不散；而后再重生，他是生生不息的罪恶，避无可避。他是所有人。通过对身体恐怖的赤裸呈现，孕育出更加湿热的心理恐怖，杰西巴克利不再是尖叫扭曲的投射意象，她表情淡漠，嘴角带着戏谑。她拿着斧子，安静地坐下来，像个男人一样。
虽然剧情老套得要死，但有高司令暴打美队倒也不算难看，Ana妹子美死了

A24真是一个导演水准试金石，好的导演（米切尔、艾斯特、萨弗迪、霍格）用自己的元素凌驾其体系之上，差的导演（加兰、洛维）将A24的包装当成遮羞布，丝毫不知这便是让他们露马脚的皇帝新衣。
虽然说过再也不看恐怖文艺片还是被骗进去了。配乐不错，构图很美，最重要的是影片贡献了我近两年看过的最惊世骇俗的猎奇场景：男人套娃连环生男人😰。
又好像一部性别寓言讽刺片。嘿嘿。“男的都去死，只有女人懂女人。”
美队怎么扮凶狠他那个样子就是狠不起来，还是算了吧。又是飞遍全球又是炸遍东欧最后搞出了个啥名堂，就为了哈佛校友争权夺位吗？Please！小女孩suppose是所有人软肋但是小姑娘是在有点过了。

裸男象征男性自然权力，致力于“播种”；警察象征男性政治权力，拥有法律强制力；牧师象征男性宗教权力，擅长道德控制。此外房东外表老实内心狠辣，男孩的行为暗示着男之初性本厌女。总结一下本片的意思是：在自然和社会中男性对女性享有权力，日常生活中男性对女性两面三刀，且骨子里就怀有厌女情结，这样的男性代代相传不会改变。电影对此的呈现十分形象，也十分猎奇。但比起加兰的《机械姬》《湮灭》《开发者》，本片过于直白，也过于浅显。

大家要带着艺术的心态去看这部厌男杰作（男导演拍厌男深入骨髓哈哈哈哈）它几乎将现实生活里女性对男性的厌恶、恐惧、憎恶全部以邪典的形式具象化了。男性至死是少年、男性至死爱当爹、男性天生就抱团。
