The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 国内也拍过这个题材，可以说和印度差远了，虽然结局也是过于理想了，但好歹也探讨了一些问题
这种题材印度真是怎么拍怎么正，其实觉得完全可以引进的，只要想的话。
我不再奢求在这个时代看到任何鲜活的美好，可是能让我爱的那些东西寿终正寝吗？
咋说呢，看似一个意外而又圆满的结局多少让人感觉不太真实，人都是自私的，再怎么样也会想要自己的没有缺陷的亲生孩子，无论什么代价。我相信这会是真实存在的故事，无论哪一方都不会太好过，这就是现实…
邓布利多的谜不配有字幕？就让它成为永远的谜吧
很想向文艺片靠的推理片，推理又不够爽，节奏太慢了
ps:最后一幕真的很有感觉……热闹是年轻人的，中年邓布利多孤身一人走在雪里。我又想起邓布利多晚年对哈利说的在厄里斯魔镜里“看见自己拿着一双厚厚的羊毛袜”。

麒麟那么重要，居然就只有纽特一个人去保护。大写的离谱！整个故事都差到骨子里。迷惑格林德沃=迷惑观众水剧情，电影前一个半小时什么都没做回到原点，最后一小时还是五个箱子=七个波特炒冷饭，更要用霍格沃兹捞钱吃相难看。再也不想看了，别拍第四部了。

虽然个别情节过于drama又烂尾,但倒是让这个白人女性角色很饱满,又可怜又自私又圣母,讽刺得很极致
格林德沃，你还怕选举？还要弄个假麒麟？狱警都能主动开锁，民众选票还不是随你摆布？麒麟，你选good will，你睁大眼睛看看这个次元里有比纽特更good will的吗？你自己都是纽特救的。这个选举制度真是搞笑。不懂，西方人，你们到底是要民主还是要专制？
题材不错，不仅印度，乌克兰更是整个欧洲的代孕国家，女性商品化，工具化，不得不让人思考这政府是什么玩意。
话题这么严肃，但是电源结尾有点回避现实的感觉，只能当做一般的爆米花电影，看看还是不错的
