The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 雷老爷子的“罗生门”，影像传递出来的是导演一以贯之的历史厚重感，延续着一向以来的风格，用心之作。
中世界的metoo系列 选角很犀利 最后一场duel拍的印象深刻 结尾让人窒息
老雷居然拍了大量的文戏，还是一个性侵的题材，当然也无需惊讶，毕竟他在早年还拍过末路狂花啊。段落结构上，是罗生门式的，有港片叹息桥的感觉，不同角色陈述同一件事情，内容发生微妙变化，前两段男人之间的戏也显示了不同的内容，有点像职场戏，却使关注点出现了些许失焦，核心表达点还是要以女性的视角作为基准去看。另一点，吊诡的是，最终事件的解决，是通过一场决斗，以男性+暴力+强权 式的决定方式，胜者全胜，得到认同，获得颂扬。这样来看，中世纪及至700余年后的当今，世界的运作，还是强者掌握话语权，似乎从来没有存在过正义、公理，或者公理也只是强者认定的公理。演员都很强，气场到位，年度十佳！
黑灰色的历史背景里，偶有的路人，毛边更多抖落的是历史的灰尘。人物群像倒也不错。
zzzq到像样板戏，好在视效足够华丽，满足了一部分我对于中世纪领主生活的幻想。小变态真适合古装，活脱脱油画里走出来的。真实事件改编和结局加一星。

另想疯狂吐槽的是，这么干净这么瘦这是大本？？？返老还童了？？？为什么不用这副肉体拍蝙蝠侠？？？想起了《普罗米修斯》的法鲨，是不是金发就显白显年轻啊？？？
一模一样的事情，差别只在视角，应该推广给所有易吵架的情侣。

年度最佳观影。雷导亲自出马，好莱坞终于对《罗生门》动手了。不同于原作四段故事的云泥之别，本片更多还是把侧重点用在了微妙细节的对比上，从而观影时更能沉进去发现差别、思考留白。结局虽然选择了最解气的一种，超级决斗看得人两手心冒汗，但各种欢呼与沉默的对比镜头处理以及女主痛苦的表情都丝毫没有让影片的深度因“解气”而大打折扣。事实证明，大部分女性对自己同胞受难时只会表现出嫉妒、无知、歪理和假慈悲(即使是最好的闺蜜)，能为自己站出来的都少之又少，更何况她人……而时至今日的我们，依然有不少男性觉得马特达蒙不惜妻子代价的决斗真他娘的正确……朱迪科默也是大器晚成，无愧演员表一番。
让我们先从勇敢发声开始！Say No！
今年最佳，特别是在这个两性议题高涨的当下，又镀上一层特别的含义。处处是隐喻，处处是真实，回味无穷。
老套冗长乏善可陈，唯一有看点的就是阿弗莱克与呆萌同框。女人永远是受害者，几千年来男人依然这么幼稚虚伪自大无知兽性
老天是公平的。强奸的人表面忏悔，但过于精明死不承认。莽夫爵士为了脸面，以命相搏，最终还是死于鲁莽。夫人总认为自己是唯一的受害者，别人都不是真心对她，一切都是她的努力赢得了胜利。但是最后所有人都知道她被强奸时有快感她撒了谎，所有人甚至她自己看到自己的孩子就会想起那个瞬间。他们每个人都深信不疑的感觉是自己的努力在控制着局面，但没有一个视角能够称得上真实。唯有老天最公平每个人都受到了应有的惩罚。
虽然囿于雷公高龄之下略保守的创作视角，但当前两幕缓缓落下，褪去了男性符号的血与火，第三幕里的玛格丽特整个人顿时焕发出了让人夺目的理性、感性以及珍贵的人性--即使这一切都是从过往的历史观出发，被浓厚的女性时代悲剧色彩所涂抹。
13.10.2021 | @ Regal Majestic | 媒体场点映。Jousting还是很爽的，弥补了今年没去Renn Fair的遗憾。以为是又一个罗生门，结果是一个完全没有反转的彻彻底底的#metoo故事。说好的unreliable narrator呢？！用这样的结构设置来讲故事，这不是杀鸡用了牛刀吗？有点失望。不过用山羊胡来遮盖屁股下巴，这一招不错！//再往深了想想，为什么我对这部metoo片本能反感，大概是因为这片的导演和两位编剧都是男性，而各处的男性凝视又格外显眼吧。现在网上的男性影评人（包括IGN）纷纷给出高分，我倒是很好奇最后评价的性别分化会是什么样子。
影片本身传达的女性觉醒价值观值得赞许，但是电影罗生门的讲述冗长难入戏，尽管Ridley老爷子为女权的发声令人敬佩，但没必要总选择悲壮的切入点。个人觉得老爷子本人并不真正懂得何为“女性力量”（参照最懂女性的导演阿莫多瓦）
又看了一眼评论简直更震惊，不是，就这也配叫女性主义电影吗？最大败笔之一就是加上女主的视角让我再看一遍痛苦的rape却言之无物，更把最后本来是了结二人恩怨你死我活的决斗真的一锤定音变成了为女主而战，特洛伊战争一口锅推给海伦，堆出三个好刻板可憎的形象，女权这么好收买政治正确这么简单吗？那要置真正的女性主义于何地...yue
居然有想打五星的衝動，可能沒對老男人電影抱太多希望吧⋯⋯經典細節錯位和POV，台詞寫得易懂又不太突兀，偶爾還挺好笑。最後一場戲太抓人了，以及電影裡所有女性的目光都值得讓人落淚啊。
