The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 对时政的嘲讽度拉满！很多以前觉得纯夸张的情节在后疫情时代都变成了现实批判，这个观感本身就很讽刺了🙂
太写实了，这就是我们的现实世界。政治如同弱智儿童的游戏，资本，媒体，公众，样样都无比拉垮。面对新冠肆虐的两年，看看我们的社会干了多少蠢事儿。生活要继续，毁灭了，只能说明不配继续。
为什么评分那么低？讽刺效果拉满了，讽刺资本，流量，政治，贫富差距，舆论…
极具讽刺意味的黑色幽默，贴合近2年的世界实事动向。当年鲁迅说国人麻木不仁，百年后，连美国人也意识到了麻木不仁带来的危害和本身的可笑。
竟然不觉得长，看得津津有味，看似漫不经心随意随性，其实塞满了梗讽刺深入节奏精心，很好看了
1、嗯，讽刺严肃问题娱乐化、美丽国的zz闹剧。不过还是不如拜伦科恩贱。
首先节奏非常紧凑明快，末世题材让悬念十足，表演有张力，娱乐度满分。其次，当你以为主要的矛盾，是讲真相的科学家，跟荒诞愚蠢的众生相的矛盾，比如满嘴谎话的政客，或是一切都娱乐至上的媒体等等，最终人们回归到了家庭和宗教，才能找到内心的平静。而最后一刻的爆炸，导演通过无数的漂浮物，揭示了真正的矛盾，就是所有纷繁的人类文明，在一颗外来彗星面前，毫无意义，这当中当然也包括了所谓的真相还是麻木，家庭还是影子政客，人类文明的一切，终归只是一只被喂肥的火鸡，等待圣诞节的到来。
3.5 最精彩的部分是结局，对于我们这种每日祈求火星撞地球的坏小孩来说，可以说是爽片了。另外，剪辑也挺有特色的。总的来说，讽刺得挺到位的，但夸张卖蠢式的喜剧风格，不是我的菜，我有点像片中两个科学家受不了一定要搞笑的主持节目一样受不了这部电影，没有办法跟正常人对话会让我想发疯，想像两个科学家一样大吼大叫。
这片儿虽然是在疫情前拍摄的，但魔幻的是：情节对照特朗普在疫情期间干的那些事儿和美国的现状，不能说十分相似，只能讲一毛一样！从里到外把美国的政客丑恶嘴脸老百姓的愚昧无知和资本家的唯利是图展现得淋漓尽致，前半段还挺严肃，后半段直接起飞变成荒诞剧，世界末日了，中国搞《流浪地球》，到了美国就是《不要抬头》白左红脖子懂王马斯克一一可以带入，格局啊，美利坚已经烂透了！少数人的逃生就是有钱人的逃生，格局如此，想想那部《2012》，都多少年了，老美还是没啥格局上的进步，毕竟资本主义国家，自私自利可是受法律保护的，精致利己则是一种道德风尚！小李子演得不错，从造型到说话风格都是另一个人，唯唯诺诺安于享乐的小科学家。
原以为会是彻头彻尾的软科幻，没想到还真被片尾“直给”的硬核科幻秀到了，非常喜欢将荒诞进行至最后一秒，映射了荒诞至极就是真的道理。
浑身都是笑点，浑身都是现实，最具有现实意义的一点就是，走到终点那一刻，世界亦然停止，一切变黑，失去时间、空间的概念，没有意识，进入永恒的状态。
哈哈2021版的what a shit show，不得不说在幽默这件事上，美国人还是得管英国人叫爸爸。本片就一高考作文微小说式的讽刺，简单粗暴，保证阅卷老师在几十秒的阅读时间里明白自己在讽刺啥，最好还能笑一笑，就算糊弄过去了。
想起来《华尔街之狼》，但这部电影的讽刺太多，反而失去了核心靶点。
可能是这两年的现实已经够荒诞了，作为一出政治讽刺片，看完居然也不觉得有多荒诞
